Steel Sculpture Commission- 1875 Terrace by the Duke of Sutherland

I recently completed this exciting commission to capture a beautiful row of terraces up in Brora, East of Sutherland up in the Highlands, originally built in 1875 by the Duke of Sutherland! The client had seen my work before at the Scottish Home Show, and was interested in a surprise piece for his partner, who had just finished renovating her terrace into a beautiful Holiday Home on the North Coast 500,

The Terrace, shown above, was designed and built in 1875 by the Duke for skilled workers developing his private railway, and as you can see it certainly has the look of a 19th Century Country Home- it's definitely the most elegant Terrace I've ever seen!

Designing the Sculpture

As the Terrace is a really nice design and has plenty of unique features such as the rounded arch doorways, detailed brickwork and chimneys we decided to go for a long piece which captured the whole row, and highlighted number 8 which is the client's Holiday Home (visiter her new website here):

The long piece was ideally suited  to welcome you inside, and the caption of the base tells a bit about the history:

"Built in 1875 By the Duke of Sutherland for his skilled railway workers; Refurbished in 2017 by Debbie Heads for Holiday Accommodation on the North Coast 500"

The steel is polished with a horizontal brushed finish, and sealed with clear gloss lacquer brushed to a semi-gloss sheen,
